Make SONY HVR-A1 from HDR-HC1 ::: PART 1
Introduction
Although A1 is professional camcorder, many TV production is using A1 for the TV product. However, I don't know how many number of HC1 is still working in the hand of consumer users because HC1 had some mechanical trouble which was reported from many users. So, the significance of being of HC1 disappeared.....
To make A1, tough guys tried hacking the HC1 firmware modification because the A1 was similarly appearance and function of HC1. However, only a few guys could hack of HC1. Eight years elapsed, here we are trying to make A1 from HC1 using other approach. Moreover, this hack has some possibility to add the external XLR microphone devices for DSLRs and recent SONY Handycam camcorders.
SONY HDR-HC1は2005年7月に民生用として最初に誕生したHDVカメラです。程なくして業務用としてXLRアダプタが搭載されたHVR-A1Jが9月に登場し、発売から8年経過した現在でも（性能は別としてw）現役で活躍しているロングセラー機となっています。
現在、コンシューマー機のHDR-HC1がどれだけのユーザーに使われているのかは全く判りませんが、様々なトラブルが発生し、さらに最近のDSLR機ブームによってその存在価値は殆ど無くなっているに等しいと思われます（泣）。
ところで、A1Jの外観がほとんどHC1と同じだったため、なんとかしてHC1をA1Jに改造しようと試みる猛者がいたんですね。実際、ファームウェアを書き換えたり、いろんな事を試したりされましたが、（当たり前でしょうが・・）実際に改造できた人は殆ど居なかったと思われます。

あれから８年が経過した今日、別のアプローチでHC1からA1Jを作るプロジェクト（んな大げさなモノではないww）を開始しました！ しかもこのカスタマイズは、EOS 5D mark II/IIIなどのDSLRや最新のハンディカムにXLR外部マイクを搭載できるというウルトラC的な使い方も用意しました（つーか、こっちがメイン）！

注 意：当たり前のことですが、この改造に関してSONYに聞いても何も教えてくれませんので、聞くだけ無駄です。あと生死を伴う作業もあるので、万が一何かが起きてもすべて自己責任です。失敗して相棒のHC1が壊れても自己責任です。

Make a A1 cold shoe on HC1 using SONY genuine parts
What is difference of external function between A1 and HC1? HC1 has flash unit but A1 do not. A cold shoe is mounted between internal left and right microphones in A1. The XLR block is installed into the cold shoe. The first step of making A1 from HC1, we will replace flash unit on HC1 to cold shoe unit of A1.
At first, you can download A1 and HC1 service manual from these links and you must understand deeply about disassemble flash unit of HC1. We deeply analyzed and compared between A1 and HC1 service manuals, we could not find the difference of main board and parts. We guess that difference between A1 and HC1 is software.
A1JとHC1の外見上の違いは、動画も取りながらついでに暗闇での静止画も取れちゃったら便利♪ 〜ww みたいな感じでHC1がフラッシュユニットを搭載しているのに対し、A1Jはコールドアクセサリーシューが付いていること。今回のハッキング（あ、言っちゃったw）はこのコールドアクセサリーシューをHC1に取り付けることが最初の仕事になります。だってこれがないとXLRアダプタをつけるところが無いからね。
それからA1JとHC1のサービスマニュアルをココとココからダウンロードして、HC1のフラッシュにユットの分解方法を熟読してください。このサービスマニュアルを熟読すると、色々おもしろいことがわかってきます。ただ、これはホントなんですがパーツ上ではA1JとHC1の差というのはほんとに僅かしかありません。恐らくソフトウェアの部分で違いがあるのだと思います。

ATTENTION: Please be careful against HIGH-VOLTAGE CAUTIONS around FLASH UNIT. I got a bad electric shock!!! My hand and body was shaking!!!
HC1の分解作業です。HDR-HC1 SERVICE MANUAL LEVEL 2 VER 1.5のページ17から見てください。
まず、分解開始時に2-1ページにあるフラッシュユニットに接続してあるキャパシタを1kΩ/W程度の抵抗を使って、放電させてください。さもなくば感電します。
つーか、ワタクシ、感電しました（爆） その瞬間手と体がブルブルっと震えました。まじで危ないです。長く使ってないから安心♪なんて甘いもんじゃないです。
Removing the uselessness flash assembly (Stroboscope block assembly) from HC1 was done.
HC1の”無駄”なフラッシュユニットが外れました（設計者の皆さん、ゴメンナサイ）。
Assemble A1 cold shoe on HC1.
Next, let's assemble A1 cold shoe genuine parts. Please see HVR-A1 service manual, page 2-3 and 2-4. To avoid abnormal leek of high voltage electric from flash capacitor, we disconnected FP-249 BOARD from TT board and insulated the terminal using the tape. However, this method has a few problem; there are possible that some error message (Self-diagnosis Code E:91:**) will appear on the LCD screen when you push the flash button during "CAMERA-MEMORY" mode. If this error will be happened, you may need reset the flash error flag (see service manual page 1-4, 1-6. PROCESS AFTER FIXING FLASH ERROR). This reset is difficult by the end users.
Assemble the cold shoe flame (2-634-290-01 FRAME, COLD SHOE) on the HC1.
コールドシューフレームを設置します。これがフラッシュユニットの代わりに入っているのですね〜。500円もします。
Assemble the CABINET, COLD SHOE.
プラスチックでできているコールドシューキャビネット。200円。
Assemble the SHOE, ACCESSORY. This parts is standard SHOE accessory for Sony products.
念願のいわゆる「通常仕様」のアクセサリーシューの装着です！SONYの汎用品で、色々な機器に使用されております。これ、ぬゎ〜んと700円もしますぜこのパーツ！

過去を遡ってみても、A1Jのパーツを使用してHC1を改造したという報告は見たことがありません。今回のレポートは恐らく（発売から8年も 経ってますがww）最初のレポートになると思います。
